Distance is Just a Number - Collaboration with Cole Crosby
Cole Crosby is a Ultra Runner and Endurance athlete motivated by exploring some of the most diverse conditions and courses the world has to offer while competing in events ranging 200 miles and beyond. As a resident of New England in Rhode Island, he loves the local running community that has given him so much and looks forward to continuing to represent our region both in national and international running competitions.
In many of my ultra running exploits, I realized that when we use our minds as a tool, as our true strongest muscle, anything is possible. I spent my early ultra running career struggling to complete a 100 mile race. It was because I was so focused on hitting that number, that distance in finding validation that I could complete the distance well. That mental gymnastics of fixating on the end point ultimately was my own downfall. But when I ran 197 miles across New Jersey, I learned that when I opened myself up to the journey rather than the result, I could achieve any distance goal I wanted to complete. Not only did I complete 100 miles but doubled my distance in a state-record performance.
"Distance is just a Number" is a mantra that has motivated me because when you believe in yourself, your team, and focus on not the end destination, but the moments along the way, then we can truly exceed our limits and expectations of what is truly possible. I believe that there is no limit, and that distance is just how far we want to push our minds and bodies.
